In less than a year brutal violence in the five central Kasai provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo has claimed more than 3,000 lives according to a tally by the Roman Catholic church and displaced 1.3 million people

On Sunday three suicide bombers attacked the university killing themselves and a security guard.

Four female suicide bombers killed eight people around an hour later on the outskirts of the city in Zannari community, in the Gwange district of Jere local government authority after detonating devices in residential buildings.

Several other young women detonated their explosives without killing other people.

Minutes later, four female suicide bombers then attacked two villages just outside the city, killing 12 people.

Chukwu also said that another set of bombers later returned to the university around 0408 hours in the morning and that the two suspected female suicide bombers detonated explosives on their bodies within the premises of the university.

"One detonated her explosive close to the Entrepreneurship Centre killing herself alone with no other casualty, while the other detonated hers behind Works Department Complex also killing herself alone", he said.

According to him, EOD/SARS and patrol teams were mobilised to the scenes as the dead and injured were evacuated to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

There have been frequent clashes on the many small islands of Lake Chad since the Boko Haram conflict began.

"I want to tell you that we are the one that attacked the convoy, here are the vehicles for all to witness, we are the ones that abducted the female police officers, in fact, they are senior female police officers", he brags.

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) said that 23 states of the federation now owed local government workers arrears of salaries ranging from one to 16 months.
