Court To Rehear Charlie Gard’s Case Guest Post
Charlie Gard's parents - Chris and Connie Yates - have been given two days to submit new evidence to try and convince a High Court judge that experimental drug treatment in the U.S. could improve the baby's health.
"Charlie's parents look forward to new evidence being heard before the High Court this Thursday the 13th of July that will result in Charlie's parents taking him to either the United States of America or to Italy for groundbreaking treatment".
Grant Armstrong, representing Charlie's parents, said there was encouraging evidence from researchers at the Vatican's children's hospital about an experimental treatment.
A British court on Monday began re-examining the case of a terminally ill baby whose life support is due to be withdrawn at a London hospital, after Pope Francis and US Donald Trump intervened in the case.
Charlie's parents had previously lost several appeals to bring him to the USA for experimental treatment for his mitochondrial depletion syndrome, a rare genetic disease that has left the boy brain damaged.
They nevertheless called for a new hearing before the British High Court of Justice, deeming it necessary to take into account the "new elements for experimental treatment" proposed by "two worldwide hospitals".

US, Russia Agree on Ceasefire in Southwestern Syria
Netanyahu continued their exchange of opinions on topical issues of Russia-Israel cooperation", the Kremlin stated. British Defence Secretary Michael Fallon welcomed any ceasefire in Syria but wanted to see results on the ground.
He said: It seems that if he remains at Great Ormond Street it seems that nearly certainly his life support will be withdrawn and clearly he is likely then to die.
When asked what they will do if the court rules in their favor Yates said they would "get on an air-ambulance and go to the hospital that want to try and save his life".
A petition supporting Charlie's right to treatment has garnered around 350,000 signatures and more than 1.3 million pounds ($1.7 million) have been raised online for his case. Arturo Estopiñan, who lives with his parents in Baltimore, Md., was diagnosed at just over a year old and has lived to the age of six, also thanks to the treatment now denied to Gard. "Until you're in this situation, you don't understand the power of hope", she said. This has triggered a debate over who knows best for a baby's health.
"I did my job", he said.
Speaking outside the hospital, Yates said: "He's our son, he's our flesh and blood".
The mother said seven specialists from around the world have expressed support for continued treatment and told her it has an "up to 10 percent chance of working". -- This story has been corrected to show that the surname of the CEO of Americans United for Life is Foster, not Glenn.
