Former Kansas Jayhawk Traded to the Boston Celtics

09 July 2017, 01:15 | Gina Pena

THE Boston Celtics are finalizing a trade that would send starting two-guard Avery Bradley to the Detroit Pistons for Marcus Morris and a second-round draft pick, multiple reports bared on Friday.

That's how the Detroit Pistons reportedly traded Marcus Morris for Avery Bradley and a second-round pick.

The trade allowed Boston to open up the necessary cap room to sign Gordon Hayward to a maximum contract while also allowing them to sign stashed forward Guerchon Yabusele. Bradley is in the final year of his current contract and is set to make a little more than $8.8M this upcoming season.

McRoberts, 30, averaged 4.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 22 games with Miami last season. In that sense, Bradley is a high-end version of the free agent the Pistons added, Langston Galloway, another guard capable of defending either backcourt spot, making plays off the dribble and shooting above the league average from the 3-point line.

Bradley will replace Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who was a restricted free agent the team won't be able to afford with Bradley's contract on the books.

In getting Bradley, the Pistons finally get the two-way guard that they have been wanting.

I'm guessing most people argue the Pistons got the better of the Celtics, including Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy.

Gordon Hayward joining the Boston Celtics meant someone on the team had to go.

Avery will become a free agent at the end of next season and it may have been hard to retain both him and All-Star Isaiah Thomas. The Brooklyn Nets are known to be interested in him, and could sign him in the coming days - especially if the Washington Wizards match the max offer sheet they gave to Otto Porter Jr.

As trading Marcus Morris isn't the easiest thing for fans to cope with, ridding of him creates minutes for Tobias Harris and Stanley Johnson at small forward.

Morris will be joining his fourth team in six National Basketball Association seasons; he averaged 14.0 points and 4.6 rebounds last season. (Detroit may find it easier to move other players for tax relief with a year less on their deals, it should be noted.) At worst, the Pistons gave up two years of Morris at a good price for one with Bradley. Last season for the Los Angeles Clippers, he averaged 6.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists while shooting 43% from the field and 31.9% on three-pointers.

Sports Illustrated reported on Friday that both Marcus and Markieff are scheduled to go on trial August 21 in Arizona to face charges for "aggravated assault-temporary disfigurement".
