Feed your need to know - Google Blog
Part of what makes Facebook's news feed attractive is the personal endorsement and comments that users often add to stories they share. The update sees the arrival of algorithm-powered feeds that display a personalized stream of content. Note the reference to Apple and Google's mobile platforms. The mobile app feed also contains things such as boarding passes and calendar events based on things taken from Gmail and Google calendar.
While most of the new features are iterative, with some form of them available in the Google search apps already, the addition of the Google feed to the main desktop sites will mark one of the biggest changes to Google's approach to search.
While the feed isn't a shift in business model for the web giant, it does signal a turning point in how the largest web giants are continuing to compete for users' attention.
As some are aware, over the past few years, #Google has made changes to its searchresults pages. Today, we are announcing a new feed experience in the Google app, making it easier than ever to discover, explore and stay connected to what matters to you-even when you don't have a query in mind. Google's feed won't appeal to people users who value having their friends' commentary on shared links within a news feed. Instead of basing curation exclusively on explicit choices, Google feed is creating curation based on the user's implicit preferences and prior behavior. This is Google's attempt to personalise news and showcase content that is relevant to users, along with articles that are trending in the area. Also, you can prevent posts from a certain publication to appear on your news feed.
Google's signature home page, consisting only of a logo and a search bar, is set to be replaced by a home page that more closely resemble the home page on its iOS and Android app. To start introducing feeds would be very odd.
The content goes deeper and is supposedly smarter for you specifically.
This move by Google could signal the end of Google Now, which has been fading into irrelevance since the coming of Google Assistant, and now, the Google Feed.
