Actress' abduction and assault case: Kerala High Court rejects Malyalam actor Dileep's bail plea
While considering the bail petition of the actor, the court noted that since the petitioner being a noted film actor and producer, he must be wielding considerable command on the industry and there is possibility of him influencing or threatening several witnesses, who are also in the same industry. The court was also informed of how Dileep denied knowing Suni until confronted with evidence.
Dileep was charged under Sections 120 (B), 342, 366,376 (D), 411, 506 (1), 201, 212 & 34 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 66 (E) & 67 (A) of the Information Technology Act.
However, the embattled actor's counsel - Ram Kumar - claimed the actor has been falsely implicated in the case, and the investigation team was "busy fabricating evidence against him".
Dileep's counsel told the court that the investigators had no proof against the actor.
Local reports have said that after the Kerala HC denied Dileep bail, the actor seemed dejected as his lawyers had expressed confidence in getting a ruling in his favour. Earlier the actor had applied for bail at the magistrate court but it was dismissed.
US to ban Americans from traveling to North Korea
The 22-year-old died June 19 and his death triggered widespread criticism from US officials against the Kim Jong Un-led regime. What happened to Otto Warmbier? Warmbier had confessed he tried to steal a propaganda banner while visiting with a tour group.
There are reports that an advance amount of Rs. 10000 was given to Pulsar Suni, the main accused. He argued that his client had been questioned for a total of 23 hours by the police, and that he was not required any more for the objective of the investigation. He also distributes and produces films. Although Dileep has the option to move the division bench of the High Court or Supreme Court of India for bail, it is time-consuming and if he fails to get bail there, it would further dent his image.
Appearing for the actor, Senior Advocate K Ramakumar contended that there was not even an iota of evidence to connect his client with the incident or the conspiracy.
Thomas lodged a complaint with Palarivattom police on Monday.
What is clear, is that Dileep will not emerge from this scandal unscathed.
