Leading political parties on Friday supported the NDA government's stand on the Doklam situation, which has led to a month-long stand-off with China at the Sikkim border.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, besides the Foreign Secretary briefed the MPs.

Reacting to the Chinese Foreign Office spokesperson's remarks that China was ready to mediate between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Gopal Baglay said cross-border terrorism was at the heart of the issues between New Delhi and Islamabad.

Former defence minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, who represented the Samajwadi Party at the meeting, said the government needs to be careful about dealing with China. "Otherwise, under India's logic, if the Pakistani government requests, a third country's army can enter the area disputed by India and Pakistan, including India-controlled Kashmir", stated an opinion piece Sunday. "Our central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister is protecting the Indian territories very properly".

Opposition leaders have been critical of the government for its handling of the China and Kashmir issues. Following the meeting, Mr O'Brien said that while all parties listened to government's response on China, the general sense was that India should also engage diplomatically with the neighbouring country. For Congress, security and national interest are paramount.

The meeting held at Home Minister Rajnath Singh's residence was also attended by BJP President Amit Shah. "...don't blame us that (we) didn't warn you!" it said.

Yechury reiterated the opposition's position that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has "worsened" in the past three years and asked the government to correct its "faulty" approach.

Early in June, Indian soldiers stopped Chinese troops from constructing a new road that Delhi has described as a major security concern because it gives China access to the Chicken's Neck - a thin strip of land that connects mainland India to its seven north-eastern states.

The ministers insisted that the attack was not an outcome of any security lapse but it took place because the bus carrying the pilgrims was not registered with the authorities and moved much after the security forces had withdrawn from the area. We fully support the government in these efforts. "All of us know that the heart of the matter is cross-border terrorism perpetrated on India, including Jammu and Kashmir". Doka La is the Indian name for the region which Bhutan recognises as Dokalam, while China claims it as part of its Donglang region. India is opposing mediation and is not interested or serious in bilateral talks then question arises what option is there to sort out differences?
