The Bambino Gesu' offered to help Yates and her husband Chris Gard after Pope Francis said treatment should be provided "until the end".

On Friday, the day Charlie's life support was initially scheduled to be disconnected, the Pope used his Twitter account to send a clear pro-life message in the infant's favor. His doctors now wish to take him off life support.

The Pontifical Academy for Life and the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales extended prayers for Charlie, the medical staff caring for him and the parents.

The High Court considered evidence from a specialist who would oversee any treatment Charlie had at a hospital in the US.

Labour MP Ms Malhotra said: "If there is any room for discretion within the court rulings for Great Ormond Street to allow Charlie to leave and to transfer his care to doctors at Columbia University, and he is sufficiently stable to receive treatment, will the Prime Minister do all she can to bring the appropriate people together to try to make this happen?" "He is praying for them, in the hope that their desire to accompany and care for their own child until the end will be respected", the director of the Holy See Press Office, Greg Burke, said in a statement. His parents have gone through a lengthy legal battle for their son to undergo a therapy trial in the USA, despite doctors saying the treatment would not help. While it is different symptoms - Charlie is deaf, blind, brain damaged and unable to breathe on his own - her son has faced his own difficulties. The parents said that the hospital did not allow them to take Charlie home.

The Vatican has weighed in, saying "we must do what advances the health of the patient, but we must also accept the limits of medicine" and "avoid aggressive medical procedures that are disproportionate to any expected results or excessively burdensome to the patient or the family".
