Venus Williams breaks down in tears when asked about fatal auto crash

As another round of competition started off at Wimbledon, Venus Williams had to face questions from the media about the fatal auto crash she was involved in that claimed the life of a passenger in another vehicle. Her children filed a wrongful death lawsuit and said that Jenner's negligence was to blame.

She was focused enough on court against Mertens, but it quickly became clear the press conference wasn't going to be so easy to deal with.

There was a lot attention towards Venus Williams in the press room at Wimbledon on Monday After her straight sets win over the Belgian Elise Mertens on Monday. "I'm completely speechless", an emotional Venus said. When she came back, Williams said she would only entertain questions related to tennis. In the court papers, Williams is accused of failing to yield the right of way to the Barsons and speeding through a red traffic light, which resulted in the fatal collision and left the couple's small Hyundai auto "crushed".

"There were video cameras placed at guardhouses where Williams lives, police have refused after multiple requests to turn those over to us, and we would like to see visual portrayal of the accident on those videos".

"I don't think my story is over yet", she remarked.

The 37-year-old tennis player has faced a lot of obstacles in her tennis career.

The police report says Williams was driving around 8km/h when the crash occurred, and there's no evidence that alcohol, drugs or texting caused the crash. In recent years, she has been able to climb the rankings slowly after coming out of her first retirement, and she even faced her sister Serena at the Australian Open in 2017.

Williams has chosen to play on, and showed her on-court resilience in coming through the opener.
