A total solar eclipse will occur August 21, and what makes this celestial event so special is that it is the first transcontinental total solar eclipse in 99 years.

NASA will live stream the event in various platforms, so all one has to do is open up any of the agency's streaming platforms.

Millions are expected to travel to cities and states in the path of eclipse totality, where locals are bracing for the onslaught, according to news accounts.

No other country but the US will be privy to the path of totality.

It is offered as fair warning to every person in every town that lies just beyond the eclipse's 70-mile-wide path of totality. The path of totality begins in the North Pacific, passes through northern OR, central Idaho, over Wyoming, across Nebraska, and through Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and SC, finally passing into the North Atlantic.

The current NASA map shows that path, arching in a line across the United States from OR through Missouri and continuing through SC and into the Atlantic Ocean, will just miss dozens of communities in the southern reaches of the Kansas City area.
