Police: Professor and British man wanted in murder detained
Andrew Warren, 56, was arrested in Oakland last night alongside the American professor, Wyndham Lathem, also suspected of stabbing Trenton Cornell-Duranleau, 26. "Wyndham Lathem and Andrew Warren are both in police custody in Oakland, CA".
"Our primary focus is to facilitate a safe surrender and we strongly encourage Professor Lathem and Mr. Warren to do the right thing and turn themselves into any police department in the USA or contact CPD [the Chicago Police Department] and we will make any necessary accommodations", Guglielmi said. Warren, a Somerville College resident at Oxford University in England, was taken to the San Francisco County Jail.
Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Frank Conroy said Saturday that fast-paced surrender negotiations through an attorney began late Friday afternoon and that by evening, Wyndham Lathem arrived by vehicle at the courthouse.
A manhunt had been under way since first-degree murder warrants were issued for the two men shortly after the body of Trenton James Cornell-Duranleau was found on July 27 riddled with stab wounds in the 10th floor Chicago apartment where Lathem lived.
Police said Lathem had sent a video to friends and relatives apologising for his involvement in the crime, which he called the 'biggest mistake of my life'.
"We are also thankful both men are safely in custody and this did not end in further tragedy".
