BREAKING: Cause Released on Fatal Ohio Fair Incident

Ride manufacturer says 'excessive corrosion' led to deadly accident at Ohio State Fair

The manufacturer of a ride that malfunctioned at the Ohio State Fair and killed one teenager and injured several others said the mishap was due to corrosion. So what exactly caused this tragic situation??

Amusements of America, the fairground vendor, describes the Fire Ball as a "spectacular", "aggressive thrill" ride that swings riders more than 40 feet into the air and spins them at 13 revolutions per minute.

"It was determined that excessive corrosion on the interior of the gondola support beam dangerously reduced the beam's wall thickness over the years", KMG International, which makes the Fireball, said.

The company said it conducted an investigation into the incident, which included a visit to the scene and a review of video footage of the incident.

The ride, the Fireball, had been on the circuit for 18 years when the accident happened that killed an 18-year-old. The ride had passed multiple inspections in the days leading up to the accident. Jarrell had recently enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps and was supposed to attend basic training next year.

OH state officials said the ride had been inspected multiple times before it malfunctioned. Of the seven others injured during the accident, four required a stay at the hospital.

KMG added that its working with safety experts to come up with an "inspection protocol" to "allow properly inspected and maintained rides to safely reopen".

Ohio Department of Agriculture records showed passing marks on inspections for Fire Ball on about three dozen items, including possible cracks, brakes, proper assembly and installation. The fair's last day was Sunday.

Similar rides were shut down across the country following the deadly accident.
