Disney Unveils Sculpture Honoring Toddler Killed by Gator

Disney has installed and unveiled a statue honoring the toddler killed in an alligator attack previous year.

The company announced in June plans to build the gold and blue statue.

The lighthouse is a symbol of the foundation, which aims to "create a strong base of support for families in crisis".

"The lighthouse sculpture has been installed to help spread awareness of the Lane Thomas Foundation, which was established to provide assistance and support to families whose children need organ transplants." .

Lane was playing outside the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa on June 14, 2016, following an outdoor showing of "Zootopia" on the beach outside the hotel.

The Thomas Lane Foundation, which was set up by his family after his death, posted a picture of the lighthouse on its Facebook page on Monday. He and other children were building sandcastles, and Lane was collecting water in a bucket. That's when an alligator snatched and drowned the toddler in a vicious, predatory attack. Matt Graves attempted to pry the gator's mouth open, but the animal escaped with Lane.

The boy's relatives said they found some comfort in the statue. The reptile dragged the boy's body to the bottom of the lagoon.

Disney added warning signs throughout the property after the attack.
