Rahul visits flood-hit district of Assam
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit back at Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi after his vehicle was attacked by unknown persons in Gujarat's Banaskanta during his visit to flood affected areas on Friday, by accusing him of politicising the flood situation in the state.
In a series of tweets, Congress spokseperson Randeep Singh Surjewala alleged that the attack was an organised act by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists.
Mr Gandhi is scheduled to visit some of the worst affected areas in the district, such as Dhanera, where he would interact with the flood victims and share their pain, the release said. The incident happened in Banaskantha area where Rahul Gandhi was also shown black flags. "Disgusting & disgraceful", he wrote on the micro-blogging website. Reportedly, Rahul Gandhi will visit Barmer also. Don't call public of this country as rowdy elements, people who are suffering from floods, people who are exhausted of this kind of politics that Rahul Gandhi and his party are doing.
The Congress is likely to raise the issue during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament and dem-and the government to explain the security lapse. Violence and physical attack have become BJP's culture.
Notably, the Congress MLA from the area is in Bengaluru as part of the party legislators who have been flown to the southern city apparently to avoid being "poached" by the BJP ahead of the August 8 Rajya Sabha polls.
Attacking the BJP, Congress senior leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, said "are we reaching a space in our democracy where political opponents are not going to be allowed to practice democratic politics?"
