400000 hit by new Ryanair cancellations to solve pilot crisis

Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary
Ryanair has today announced that a further 400,000 passengers will have their flights cancelled between November 2017 and March 2018. From April next year, the airline will permanently operate 10 fewer aircraft.
But because passengers are this time being given up to five weeks' notice of the cancellation, they will not receive any extra compensation under European Union passenger rules.
Ryanair is facing "enforcement action" for failing to give customers accurate information about their rights following hundreds of flight cancellations.
The gesture means Ryanair's original €25m (£22.2m) cost estimate for the pilot rota blunder has doubled to €50m.
As a result, 34 routes are suspended for the winter season from November to March 2018.
Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary apologized to passengers and stated that "slower growth" will allow the company to grant necessary vacation time to its employees.
Ryanair has just announced that it is cancelling more flights in the coming weeks.
The airline said less than 1% of the 50 million passengers it will carry this winter are affected and every one of these customers has received an email today giving them between 5 weeks to 5 months notice of these schedule changes, offering them alternative flights or full refunds of their airfare.
