The police found his body near Ramohalli lake on the outskirts of the city on Friday. However, Rathore said, the abductors panicked as they thought they would be caught by the police if they released Sharath and made a decision to kill him the same night.
According to The News Minute, a police source claimed that the body was first thrown into the lake with stones tied around it so that it would drown. Anxious parents of the automobile engineering student then got anxious and called him up but Sharath did not answer any of the calls. The police have said that his friend was among the kidnappers.
According to reports, the teenager was kidnapped by one of his relatives named Vishal and his accomplices.
When Sharath did not return home till late evening on September 12, his parents got anxious, and registered a police complaint. In the video, Sharath stated that he had been kidnapped by some persons who looked like terrorists and were demanding a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from his parents, said police.
Police said the body has been exhumed and further investigations are on.
The next day, the alleged kidnappers sent a video message via WhatsApp to the youth's mother and sister.
Son of a senior Income Tax official, Sharath was kidnapped on 12 September when he was reportedly riding his new motorcycle. They dumped his body at Rachenahalli lake near Kengeri suburb. On the third day, they saw the body floating in the water. They then took out the decomposed body and went around the city for a day in a vehicle, and then buried it near a quarry at Ajjenahalli in Ramanagaram district, the police said.
The abductors killed him after realising that his father has filed a police complaint.
