Hillary Clinton, in interview, reflects on 'very painful' loss

US publisher Simon & Schuster has released the title and cover of former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in July 2017
"I am done with being a candidate", she told CBS'Jane Pauley, in her first major TV interview since her defeat in the 2016 presidential election. "It hurts a lot", the 2016 Democratic nominee said in an interview on CBS Sunday Morning, the first in a series of appearances to highlight the upcoming publication of "What Happened", her memoir about the campaign. "It is still very painful".
The erstwhile presidential hopeful opened up about what she thinks was the biggest of her mistakes: using a personal email server during her tenure as secretary of state. You can blame the data, blame the message, blame anything you want - but I was the candidate. In a feisty, relaxed pre -recorded interview with Jane Pauley this morning, she also promised that she won't run for office again, but that she would remain "in politics". And - you know, my share of Chardonnay, ' Clinton admitted.
"Can we talk about election day, " she asked gently."Did you have any clue what the outcome of that day would be". "Honestly, I wish she'd just shut the fuck up and go away". "I am not done with politics because I literally believe that our country is at stake", she said.
The former NY senator and USA secretary of state vowed to remain a political advocate, but said she would not seek elected office again.
"He was quite successful in referencing the nostalgia that would give hope, comfort, settle grievances, for millions of people who were upset about gains that were made by others", Clinton said of Trump's campaign.

"I thought a lot of his appeals to voters was deplorable".
Clinton, often described as a cold calculator, has also recognized the awful void she felt after her surprise defeat, and this despite a wide lead in the popular vote.
But in the end, she admits that she made mistakes, including her use of the word "deplorables" to describe Trump supporters, and that "maybe I missed a few chances" during the campaign. I really struggled. I couldn't feel, I couldn't think.
"Bill [Clinton] just kept saying, 'Oh, you know, that was a terrific speech, ' trying to just bolster me a little bit".
Clinton writes that Sanders' rhetoric about her during the primaries created "lasting damage", adding that Sanders "had to resort to innuendo and impugning my character" because the two candidates "agreed on so much".
