Anker, Panasonic Among First Companies to Introduce Google Home-Compatible Smart Speakers
IFA is dedicated to consumer electronics as well as appliances, and probably not too surprisingly, Google's Assistant finds a home in both. At the time of the announcement, Google announced the availability of Assistant on the following three speakers - IP67 water resistant Mobvoi TicHome Mini for $100, Anker's yet-to-be-launched ZoloMojo and the Panasonic GA10. The company wants to bring the Google Assistant to as many users as possible, this is why it's now available on more Android smartphones and even on iOS devices as a standalone app.
Available in Australia, US, Canada, Germany and France, the following speakers will receive Google Assistant, thereby giving them the functionality of Google Home.
Finally the push for Google Assistant to be placed in a new devices is happening.
Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has announced that its voice-enabled digital assistant, Google Assistant, will be integrated into more products and appliances including smart speakers, smart washing machines, dryers and vacuums. If you're expecting guests and need the floor cleaned, you can say, "OK, Google, start vacuuming".
The idea of controlling appliances with a voice assistant isn't new, but it's starting to become more popular.
The idea behind Google Assistant is that you can easily wake it with the Ok Google command and then set off on conversational engagement with it. "Getting help around the house will be easier than ever". Plus, it boasts a splash-proof rating of IPX6, which means that you can use the Mini in your bathroom or by the pool. You can link up two or more LINK speakers and get a great experience in your home or outside.
Google also said in its post that there are "more than 70 home automation manufacturers" (e.g., Honeywell), now compatible with Google Assistant.
Google's larger strategy here seems to be following in the footsteps of Amazon and its rival Alexa assistant. We're approaching the one-year mark of Google Home being on the market, and Google still hasn't seen its artificial intelligence technology gain widespread traction like Amazon's.
