Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has warned the United States against cutting military assistance, saying it will be counter-productive, a media report said.

Regarding the U.S. pressures, PM Abbasi said Islamabad has not received any specific demands from USA, promising that the country would take steps regarding any information they receive.

He denied Pakistan was harbouring militants, insisting it was "fighting agents of chaos".

He denied that Pakistan supported militant groups as he batted away suggestions that Trump's comments would upend relations between the Cold War allies.

The Prime Minister's remarks came after Washington asked Islamabad to do more against the Haqqani Network terror group, which the USA believes has close ties with Pakistan.

"We don't think the Pakistani-US relationship will be defined by Afghanistan", the prime minister said.

"We haven't received any list of measures", Abbasi told reporters in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The prime minister said that the government ensured completion of even those critical projects which were dormant for decades.

Abbasi said bilateral ties between Pakistan and the United States can not be defined only by the Afghan issue. "We are open (with the US)".

He said that Pakistan had defeated the menace of terrorism, asking the Pakistan-based foreign correspondents to visit Miramshah and see for themselves how Pakistan's military had cleared the area by offering sacrifices.

Earlier in an interview with Reuters news agency, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi stressed the need for Pakistan-US close cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

Both Pakistan's civilian government and military reacted angrily to Trump's statement. He said it was unfair to blame Pakistan for all the troubles in Afghanistan.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said Pakistan was more committed than any other country in the region for peaceful resolution of the Afghan issue which should be Afghan-led and Afghan-owned.
