Paris to host 2024 Olympics, Los Angeles to follow in 2028
The International Olympic Committee named Paris and Los Angeles as hosts for the 2024 and 2028 Olympics on Wednesday, crowning two cities at the same time in a historic first for the embattled sports body.
The new 2028 report concludes: "From the information submitted, the IOC Evaluation Commission considers that the main requirements for Los Angeles to host the Olympic Games 2028 have been met".
Paris is set to take its place alongside London as the only three-time hosts of the Summer Games in 2024.
The AP adds this will be the third Olympics for both cities, and the Los Angeles games will be the first Summer Olympiad in the US since 1996.
An International Olympic Committee meeting in Peru is to make it official that LA will host in 2028 and that the 2024 Games will go to Paris.
"Bringing the Olympics back home to LA gives us the chance to imagine what our city will look like a decade from now", said Eric Garcetti, Mayor of Los Angeles.
The IOC members at the 131st IOC Session unanimously approved a so-called tripartite agreement between the cities and the IOC by a show of hands to settle the double awarding, instead of voting for a city in a secret ballot as in the past.

The Democrats on the panel should walk away now rather than continue to provide a bipartisan patina to this dishonest enterprise. We may never definitively know how Republican efforts to discourage Democratic votes affected the outcome of the 2016 election.
The Olympic cauldron at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is blazing again, ahead of the expected official awarding of the 2028 Games to LA.
The two cities are scheduled to host the XXXIII and XXXIV Summer Olympics, respectively.
The Paris Games will come on the 100th anniversary of its last turn - a milestone that would have made the French capital the sentimental favorite had only 2024 been up for grabs.
"Today, LA 2028 is taking the final step in our bid, and preparing to begin our 11-year journey as an Olympic host city", Garcetti said.
"I think it's a very positive message about the value of the Olympic movement and the value of the Olympic Games", said Sergei Bubka, the Olympic champion pole vaulter, who is an honorary member of the IOC. It seeks to streamline the Games, most notably by eliminating billion-dollar stadiums and infrastructure projects that have been underused, if used at all, once the Olympics leave town. A big number, indeed, though it must be put into perspective: Earlier this summer, organizers in Tokyo estimated their cost for the 2020 Games at $12.6 billion.
Los Angeles began its quest to host the Games in 2014, but was originally beat out by Boston.
