The pole for the race Saturday night is the 20th of Kenseth's career and comes in the last race to make the 16-driver NASCAR playoffs that begin next week in Chicago. "I didn't think I was fast enough", Kenseth said. But when we didn't have bad luck, we didn't capitalize. We haven't had to fight to get in the playoffs in a long time. We ran like we should have tonight. I don't exactly know 100 percent where we are, but I know we are one of the last few spots of non-winners that are still in. Leading the list is Joey Logano, who won this very race earlier this year before his win was "encumbered" and he lost all the playoff benefits from it. He has finished in the top-5 in five others. "We're fired up and ready to go". We had a long-run auto, though, that was really fast.
Once again, though, closing out became a hard task for Busch on this night after Keselowski grabbed the lead with less than 15 laps to go and didn't relinquish it until the race ended. "There'll be a big hurt in your heart, because you feel like you deserved to be in that group".
Kenseth's approach to this race is simple - run well and get the win if you can.
Earnhardt spent much of the night in the top 10 at Richmond Raceway and was out front for 13 laps (his most in a race all year, Laps 335-347) as part of a strategy play to stay out as long as possible and hold the lead.
Surely, conventional wisdom went, Logano would run to another victory before the fall race at Richmond or at least put himself in position to qualify on points.
"It's on us", Earnhardt said Saturday night about missing the playoffs. We weren't going to win staying on the same strategy as everyone else.
"You come to all these racetracks with an urgency to win, just like we did at the Daytona 500", Bowyer said.
"That's all we could do to try and win", he said. I'd love to win a race but damn, if we can just run as well as we did tonight in the next several races that would be great for all of these guys. Crew chief Greg Ives will sit out the action at Richmond.
Speaking of Hamlin, his win last weekend at Darlington has been encumbered and he's been docked 25 driver's points due to an L-1 penalty assessed to the No. 11 team with crew chief Mike Wheeler suspended two races for a rear suspension violation in post-race inspection.
Christophe Berra is head boy in Scotland's Malta stroll
Griffiths said: "I'll be fine for Friday". "I didn't know England had been a goal down and we only found that out after the game". Goals from Christophe Berra and Leigh Griffiths kept Scotland in contention in Group F with two matches remaining.
Buckeyes will be challenged by Sooners
News of Eason's injury led Notre Dame to open as a 6.5-point favorite at home, but that line has been bet down to Notre Dame -4.5. However, Baker Mayfield and numerous Sooner starters got lots of rest after they got pulled from the game at halftime.
Elliott will play Week 1
So, as it stands, Elliott's suspension should start in Week Two, when the Cowboys are set to face the Denver Broncos at home. The suspension stems from an alleged domestic violence claim from one of Elliott's ex-girlfriends, Tiffany Thompson .
