Actor Dileep has been granted bail by the Kerala High Court in connection with the abduction and sexual abuse of an actress in February this year in Kochi.
Angamaly Magistrate court extended Dileep's custody on September 28th hearing, rejecting his bail plea The actor had been lodged in the Aluva sub-jail since July 10. The Kerala High Court till now had denied bail on the grounds that the actor could possibly influence the witnesses in the case.
A large number of fans gathered outside the Aluv Sub Jail, where Dileep has been lodged in since his arrest and celebrated the news by distributing candies and raising pro-Dileep slogans.
A few hours later, he walked out of the Aluva sub-jail, waving and blowing kisses to his fans, who had gathered in large numbers. He should appear before the investigation officer as and when called, cooperate with the investigation, and not interfere in the investigation till the filing of the final report after his release.
Meanwhile, latest reports suggest that Dileep will be watching his latest film Ramaleela with his wife Kavya Madhavan, daughter Meenakshi and other family members in the coming days. Manorama Online reported that the court observed the investigation against Dileep was "progressing well" when it granted him bail.
In a short span of time, Dileep had also become a part of nearly all the associations in the Malayalam film industry and became a superstar who had quite a lot fan following. He left the jail at 5:20 pm today and his fans were waiting outside the jail premises to welcome him. However, after police gave assurance in the court that she will not be arrested, it was dismissed. He had been filing pleas for his bail and it was his fifth attempt.
The prosecution told the court that Dileep would have obtained Rs 65 crore if the "quotation" was properly carried out by Sunil Kumar alias "Pulsar" Suni, the first accused in the case.
The actress, who has worked in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films, was kidnapped and molested in a moving auto while she was on her way from Thrissur to Kochi on the night of February 17 this year.
Dileep was warned by the Kerala High Court today not to tamper with evidence.
