Delhi: Five Killed in Shahdara Over Alleged Property Dispute

In gruesome multiple murders, an 82-year-old widow, her three daughters aged 38 to 56 as well as a guard were found stabbed to death at their house in east Delhi on Saturday morning, police said.

Nupur Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara), said that Urmila was planning to sell off some of her properties. The police officials present at the spot said that the incident came to light when a call was made to the police at 7:15 AM. Family members of the deceased women were also questioned today, a senior police officer said.

The deceased include four women Urmila (65), Sangeeta Gupta ( 43), Nupur (35), Anjali (33), and security guard Rakesh (50). Four family members and one guard were murdered.

Cops are questioning the family members to know what preceded the murders but initial facts indicate that a property dispute could be the reason behind the killings.

The UN has "substantial capacity" in Myanmar which can be quickly deployed to northern Rakhine once clearance is granted he added. The team had also urged government investment in Rakhine infrastructure such as roads, electricity, water and internet access.

According to the police, robbery was not a motive behind the killings since jewellery on the bodies of the women was untouched and an expensive cellphone was found lying there. All five had their throats slit. "Our rooms are a little far from each other which is why probably we could not hear any sound when the murders took place", said Satish Chand Jindal, nephew of Urmila. The bodies have been sent for autopsy.

The Jindals have been living in the area since 1931 and are a business family.

Over 40 persons of the same family stay in the two-storey building, which is part of Jindal Oil Mills.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) Ravindra Yadav and Special CP (Law & Order), North Zone, SBK Singh visited the spot.
