Nasa has a Halloween special for you: Spooky sounds from space to 'make your skin crawl'

NASA shares 22 spooky space sounds of Solar System on Halloween to scare us

In time for Halloween, NASA has put together a compilation of elusive "sounds" of howling planets and whistling helium that will make your skin crawl. That may very well be the case, but that doesn't mean space isn't filled with an abundance of unusual sounds in the form of radio bursts, electromagnetic pulses, solar wind, charged particle bursts and other celestial emissions.

A playlist of spooky space sounds has been released by NASA to coincide with Halloween.

NASA said that the data used to create the playlist was collected by instruments on spacecraft that capture radio emissions, which scientists converted into sound waves.

NASA's Juno probe zips around Jupiter every few weeks at speeds of up to 130,000 miles per hour, plowing through all kinds of invisible fields in the process. Sounds of Jupiter: Scientists sometimes translate radio signals into sound to better understand the signals.

Next up are the plasma waves, like the roaring ocean surf, captured using the EMFISIS instrument aboard NASA's Van Allen Probes.

"Saturn's Radio Emissions" were recorded with the Cassini spacecraft, which recently plunged into the planet's atmosphere, bringing its long mission to an end.

The eerie sound is similar to the emissions recorded on Earth during the aurora borealis in the northern hemisphere.

These sounds range from high-pitched chorus of plasma waves, to trance-like radar echoes from the surface of Titan and some haunting whispers from Ganymede, Jupiter's largest moon.

This is one of the few true audio-like recordings from space: the sound caused by the Stardust spacecraft passing through the dust of comet Tempel 1, pinging the robot's body with debris.
