North Korea hackers steal South Korea war plans

Military Says Has Technology to Make Blackout Bombs

The military exercise was the first nighttime American B-1 bomber drill conducted with the two USA allies in the region.

The South Korean military said this was part of a regular exercise to bolster military defenses and also to display the alliance between the United States and South Korea.

"The plan is fundamental to conducting a war operation, and leakage of even a small part of it is very critical", Rhee Cheol-hee, of the ruling Democratic Party, told Bloomberg.

The U.S. bombers took off from the Andersen Air Force base in Guam, the U.S. Pacific territory that North Korea singled out as a possible target for a missile strike over the summer, as President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un engaged in bombastic rhetoric and brinkmanship.

This comes after US President Donald Trump last night discussed a "range of options" with his national security team to respond to North Korea's recent nuclear tests.

In May, South Korea said it had a large amount of data stolen and that North Korea may have been behind it, although the secretive state denied this.

Outside governments and global human rights organizations say Kim rules as a tyrant over a largely malnourished and abused population while enjoying a luxurious lifestyle backed up by a weapons program almost advanced enough to viably target the US mainland with nuclear-tipped missiles.

"While I would not characterize them as the best in the world, they are among the best in the world and the best organized", Army Gen. Vincent Brooks, commander of U.S. Forces Korea, told the Senate past year. In a speech at the United Nations in September, the US President accused the North Korean leader Kim of being "on a suicide mission" - while Kim responded by vowing to "tame the mentally deranged US dotard with fire".

In a pair of tweets sent Saturday afternoon, Trump said past agreements with North Korea have all been violated.

At the end of last month, North Korea's foreign minister Ri Yong-ho said that the U.S. had "declared war" on the authoritarian state and was "right" to shoot down American planes.

There is no evidence that the attacks were successful, and cybersecurity experts believe that North Korea lacks the ability to disrupt the power grid.

The Pentagon also declined to comment specifically on reports of the potential breach, but spokesman Col. Robert Manning said on Tuesday that the U.S. is "confident in the security of our operations plans and our ability to deal with any threat from North Korea".
