California-based Mann Packing recalled a number of its packaged produce products sold at Whole Foods, Trader Joes and Walmart.

A major vegetable recall was issued across the country last week amid fears of bacterial contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and people with weakened immune systems.

Albertsons, Randalls, Tom Thumb stores in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas are among the stores voluntarily recalling Ready.

Triple-B is recalling broccoli florets, stir fry kits, veggie trays with cauliflower and veggie pack combos that were sold in store delis in Alaska.

Dozens of products, including items sold at Trader Joe's and Walmart in the US, are affected by the recall, which applies to products with "best if used by" dates from October 11 to October 20.

"As an owner of this company and a mom, providing safe and healthy foods to our consumers and their families is always our top priority", Gina Nucci, Mann Packing's director of corporate marketing, said in a statement.

Public health authorities have reported no illnesses associated with the recalled food. "This voluntary recall is a reflection of our commitment to ensuring the safety of our consumers".

All products should be either tossed out or returned where they were bought for refund.

If you picked up some vegetables in the past few weeks or so, then you should double check to see if your purchases ended up in this massive recall.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimated that 1,600 people develop a serious form of infection known as listeriosis each year, and 260 die from the disease, making it the third most-deadly form of food poisoning in the United States. Listeria can cause fever and diarrhea similar to other foodborne germs, but this type of Listeria infection is rarely diagnosed.
