Massage Envy Therapists Face Sexual Assault Allegations From Over 180 Women

Dozens accuse massage therapists at large franchise of sexual misconduct

Numerous accusers have now sued the chain, and subsequent court records reportedly show that multiple women had complained to Massage Envy about Deiter's actions prior to Ingram's report.

"It was only when I turned over on to my stomach and I felt his erect penis against my hand, rubbed up across my arm, rubbed up across my head, rubbed up across my other arm", she said.

"I completely froze", she said. The woman reported him and he was sacked.

"I was panicked, I was fearful", said Tara Woodley, describing her initial reaction to an alleged incident in September at a Massage Envy location in Washington, D.C., in which she said a massage therapist put his tongue on her genitals.

An online search of Tarrant and Dallas County court records and federal court records in Texas showed no lawsuits against Massage Envy over sexual assault allegations.

In response to the Buzzfeed investigation and other reports, Massage Envy has called the incidents "heartbreaking" and said they occurred over 15 years among 125 million massages given by the business. James Deiter, who's in his 60s, is serving a 6 1/2- to 13-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting nine women at a Pennsylvania Massage Envy where he'd been a massage therapist for years.

Oakland County Sheriff's Deputy killed during pursuit
Overall's death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner and the department will ask prosecutors to charge him shortly. The sheriff's office said the deputy, a 22-year-veteran of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, died at the scene.

"I jumped up one point, but then just laid back down because I was still frozen", Kendall said. When arrested, he reportedly admitted that he "needed help" during questioning by police. "We are all realizing this affects more people we originally recognized", Meshell said.

The South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation ruled to revoke the license of a former masseur of Massage Envy in Greenville after a client accused the masseur of sexual misconduct during the massage.

The American Massage Therapy Association told BuzzFeed that "anyone who feels there may be inappropriate behavior to call the local police immediately" and that "any massage therapist who steps over the line to inappropriate touch should face the legal consequences".

"It should be something that they should train for and have an understanding of how to respond", Ingram said. "You don't want cop cars showing up at your location the next day", she told BuzzFeed.

News 4 reported one of them in Tennessee earlier this year.

News 4 is not aware of any other allegations involving Massage Envy franchises in Tennessee. The article references 180 reported incidents. "But, we believe that even ONE incident is too many, so we are constantly listening, learning, and evaluating how we can continue to strengthen our policies with respect to handling of these issues".
