Fatah: Disarmament of Hamas not on dialogue table

Report: Hamas refuses Fatah's request to disarm, will continue terrorist activity from West Bank

Internal differences within Fatah over reconciliation with Hamas

Masked Palestinian gunmen from the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, a military wing of Hamas, commemorate the 29th anniversary of their group, in Gaza City, Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016.

During a press conference held by the Palestinian resistance movement in Gaza on Monday, Al-Haye stressed that the issue of the group's weapons is a red line, calling on other Palestinian sides to refrain from tackling the matter. "The weapons will be moved to the West Bank to fight the Occupation; it is our right to resist the occupation until it ends".

The two leading Palestinian factions sparred Tuesday over the fate of tens of thousands of employees in Gaza ahead of a key deadline, the latest sign that a landmark reconciliation accord was faltering.

The Palestinian Authority-affiliated employees quit their positions in 2007 upon orders from President Mahmud Abbas in protest of Hamas' takeover of Gaza.

Although the argument is being made that Hamas will be sitting in a government that as a body accepts the preconditions including recognition of Israel, adherence to previously-signed agreements and non-violence so the Palestinian entity should not be penalized, many United States lawmakers reject the logic and will demand that Hamas lay down its arms.

In mid-October, Hamas and Fatah met in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to discuss reconciliation, under the auspices of the Egyptian authorities.

"The Palestinian government will not be able to operate and implement its projects and security plans in the Gaza Strip if it is without a security arm".

Although the border crossings were officially transferred to the PA on November 1, effective control has been impeded by lack of security, and the crossing have been mostly closed since then.

Azzam al-Ahmad, the head of Fatah's delegation for Palestinian reconciliation, on Monday night said Iran is the "number one sponsor" of division between Palestinian factions.
