Iran Urges France to Make Regional Allies Opt for Rationality

A still image taken from a pro Houthi video shows what it says was the launch by Houthi forces in Yemen of a ballistic missile aimed at Riyadh's King Khaled Airport

Tehran has dismissed calls to negotiate its ballistic activities voiced by French President Emmanuel Macron, who earlier considered amendments to the nuclear deal over Iran's missile program, and even sanctions "if necessary".

"France' officials including its president are well aware that levelling false accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran stands in stark contradiction to the realities of the Middle East over the past decades", Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Saturday.

France has been trying to save the nuclear deal which Iran signed with six world powers - Britain, China, Germany, France, Russia and the United States.

"The very tough positions expressed by Saudi Arabia regarding Iran do not conform to what I think [about Tehran]", Le Monde on Friday quoted Macron as having said during a press conference in Dubai on Thursday. He raised the prospect of possible sanctions with regard to those activities.

The United States accused Iran on Tuesday of supplying Yemen's Houthi rebels with a missile that was sacked into Saudi Arabia in July and called for the United Nations to hold Tehran accountable for violating two U.N. Security Council resolutions.

Qassemi urged France to pursue "realistic, fair and far-sighted" policies on the ongoing developments in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region.

The US says the missile fired at Saudi Arabia was supplied by Iran.

The deal between Tehran and six world powers including France, Russia, the US, China, Germany, and the United Kingdom involves the removal of sanctions in exchange for Iran curbing its nuclear program.

Paris is a signatory to the Iran nuclear deal, which was also signed by five other major powers, namely the US, Britain, Russia and China plus Germany, to roll back Tehran's nuclear program in return for easing the worldwide sanctions.

"Undoubtedly, this silence is interpreted as a green light by Saudi rulers to continue committing such anti-human crimes", underlined the Iranian diplomat.

His decision threw the fate of the agreement into the hands of the US Congress that has until mid-December to decide whether to reinstate sanctions.
