Donald Trump fires entire HIV/AIDS advisory council

Trump Fires HIV/AIDS Council In Its Entirety By FedEx Letter, Report Claims

In a Fed-Ex letter, President Donald Trump has fired all remaining members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) without any explanation.

The firings came Wednesday, and numerous members still had time remaining on their terms.

"I'll be upset and I will speak up if ever felt that there were policies advanced or approaches to education taken that would impact people's lives", Sullivan said. "I was an Obama appointee and my term was continuing until 2018".

At the time of this post, the White House Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP) has not been staffed - and hasn't been since the Trump Administration began in January of 2017. But some fear the Trump administration will both diminish support for LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS activism and increase the stigmatization around being HIV-positive, which could lead to further infections and a lower quality of life for those living with the virus and disease. Fangerous that #Trump and Co. "The Trump Administration has no strategy to address the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic, seeks zero input from experts to formulate HIV policy, and - most concerning - pushes legislation that will harm people living with HIV and halt or reverse important gains made in the fight against this disease", he wrote in the column.

Advocates were also angered that Trump's public statements on National HIV Testing Day and World AIDS Day didn't mention LGBT people, a change from the Obama administration. The Obama administration eliminated all of George W. Bush's appointees in the same way.

All 15 members received a letter informing they that their appointments to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS had been cut off, according to a statement from the executive director of the council. However, according to him, "a lot of those key vulnerable populations are not being prioritized in this administration".

'Many of us, our terms were over earlier this year and we were sworn back in, ' Maldonado revealed. "I think where the discrepancy comes in is why a year later, number one?"

The PACHA website, which says it was updated December 28, now shows only two staff; all council members photos and bios were removed. Several who sat on the committee resigned in June of this year, citing inaction and apathy on the part of the administration regarding issues related to HIV/AIDS.

Maldonado said he represented a younger demographic on PACHA as the only member under the age of 30, which he said is where the majority of new HIV infections are occurring, and as a young, black gay man.

A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to ABC News' request for comment on the dismissals or the resignations earlier this year.

It is not yet clear when the new appointments will be made.
