Isaiah Thomas Targeting 1st Week Of January For Return

Isaiah Thomas Cavs

Even though 2017 is nearing its end, #isaiah thomas still hasn't appeared in a single game for his new team, the #Cleveland Cavaliers.

Thomas has yet to practice in a 5-on-5 full-court set up by the Cavs, partly because the league's oldest team does not practice as often as other teams do.

Thomas hasn't played in a game since suffering a torn labrum in his right hip while playing for the Celtics in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals last season, though he started 3-on-3 work at practice late last month.

After hip issues sidelined him all summer long, Isaiah Thomas' debut with the Cavs was delayed. But the play of Houston, San Antonio, Philadelphia, and Cleveland puts that prediction into question.

Yahoo Sports reported Sunday that Thomas was targeting the first week of January for a return.

All signs seems to be pointing to Thomas being on the floor for his return to the Garden if all goes well over the next two weeks in what will be perhaps the most anticipated game in the National Basketball Association this season.

According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the Cleveland Cavaliers were pushing for a mid-December return for injured All-Star Isaiah Thomas.

And it's in that first week of January, Wednesday the 3rd to be exact, that Thomas and the Cavaliers will come to TD Garden for a primetime showdown with the Celtics.

McMenamin also noted "the Cavs are hoping to find a way for Thomas to scrimmage with their G League affiliate, the Canton Charge" as he inches closer to returning to the court. According to ESPN's sources, the Cavaliers want Thomas to participate in a five-on-five scrimmate with the Charge before he plays for the National Basketball Association team.

Cleveland Cavaliers only have four more games left to play this year, including the Christmas day matchup against the Golden State Warriors.

Earlier in the season, there were a few rumors of Thomas possibly returning around Christmas.
