Top Dem blasts Oversight chairman for declining to interview Flynn whistleblower

As Donald Trump delivered his presidential inaugural address last January, his national-security adviser Michael Flynn told a former business associate in text messages that a private plan to build nuclear reactors in the Mideast was "good to go" and that US sanctions hobbling the plan would soon be "ripped up", a whistleblower told congressional investigators.

House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) showed no interest Wednesday in further investigating claims a whistleblower brought to the committee's Democrats about promises former National Security Advisor Mike Flynn allegedly made to a business associate about gutting Russian Federation sanctions that been hindering the associate's business project.

Cummings also said the whistleblower quoted a business associate of Flynn as saying the economic sanctions against Russian Federation imposed by former President Barack Obama would be "ripped up" as Flynn's first order of business as Trump's national security adviser. Cummings described the account in a letter Wednesday to the panel's Republican chairman, Rep. Trey Gowdy of SC.

"I believe the American people want Congress to hold President Trump and his administration accountable", Cummings wrote, "and they are exhausted of Republicans in Congress putting their heads in the sand when faced with credible allegations of grave abuses".

A lawyer for Mr. Flynn declined to comment.

"Mike has been putting everything in place for us", the whistleblower claims Copson said.

Gowdy said he was referring the matter to the House Intel Committee, on which Gowdy sits.

Democrats wary of House colleague's effort to impeach Trump
Mueller complete his full investigation rather than engage in what would essentially be a public relations stunt", said Rep. The House has overwhelmingly voted to kill a resolution from a Democratic lawmaker to impeach President Donald Trump .

Cumming also noted the congressional probe into Hillary Clinton's role in an Obama-era Uranium One deal that Gowdy is spearheading- a probe that was recently announced after Republicans said they had found a new informant.

Flynn pleaded guilty Friday to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation during its probe of Russian interference in the presidential election, including about conversations with Russia's ambassador to the USA about sanctions.

The episode indicates that Trump officials had planned to jettison sanctions that the Obama administration had imposed on Russian Federation.

Mr. Gowdy and Mr. Cummings have a long history of clashing publicly over politically charged investigations. Mr Copson was described by the whistle-blower as responding, "I couldn't be better", and that he was "going to celebrate today".

Cummings' initial letter detailed a whistleblower's account of claims allegedly made by Alex Copson, the managing partner of a company Flynn advised through 2016. Copson added that "this is going to make a lot of very wealthy people". But the whistleblower says he or she could not read the actual message.

The witness told Cummings and committee investigators that Copson shared a text message he had just received from Flynn, who was on stage at the Capitol during Trump's speech.

The Maryland Democrat said he considered "credible" the allegations that Flynn "sought to manipulate the course of worldwide nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners". Copson was working at the time with Flynn on a project to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East, and Flynn reported in August that he served as an "advisor" to Copson's company between 2015-2016.
