Ex-Staffer Left MSNBC After Accusing Chris Matthews Of Sexual Harassment
TV "Hardball" host Chris Matthews was reprimanded after he was accused in 1999 of making inappropriate comments about a female employee, and the woman was given a separation payment, MSNBC said on Sunday. However, MSNBC disputed the sources' claims, saying that she was given the money as a severance payment that had nothing to do with Matthews' alleged comments, and that the full amount was "significantly less" than $40,000. She brought the incident to the attention of CNBC executives after being subject to Matthew's "jokes" in the presence of a group.
The website reported that the network decided Matthews' actions were "inappropriate and juvenile", but were not intended as propositions.
MSNBC did not confirm if this was the only claim against Matthews nor if the woman left the company exclusively due to this incident.
