Pence neighbors in Aspen hang 'Make America Gay Again' banner

Neighbors across the street from a home in Aspen Colo. where Vice President Mike Pence and his wife are staying draped a rainbow banner that said 'Make America Gay Again.'

Mike Pence's neighbors in Aspen, Colorado just trolled the anti-LGBT Vice President with a rainbow banner that reads "Make America Gay Again".

Mike Pence and his wife are spending the week in Aspen, Colorado.

The banner was draped on a stone pillar located at the end of the driveways to Pence's home and that of a cheeky neighbour, the Aspen Times reported.

The banner was put out on Wednesday or Thursday after the Pence family had already arrived.

"You couldn't miss it", Pitkin County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Buglione said Friday.

The banners were hung by their daughters, and their action had the full support of their parents, Shannon Slade, a girlfriend of one of the daughters, who was also involved in the action, told the Aspen Times.

The Secret Service agents were not bothered by the statement, according to Buglione, and were offered "chili and corn muffins" by the couple.

When reached by the Daily News, the local sheriff's office referred comment to a Pence spokeswoman, who did not respond to a request for comment.

"We're not here to control your free speech rights", one of the agents said.

Pence, who has a long history of opposing policies providing equal protections for homosexual Americans, often describes himself as "a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order".

This isn't the first time that Pence has been greeted with LGBT pride messages.

As Indiana governor, a position he held before he was tapped as President Donald Trump's running mate, Pence signed into law a controversial legislation that advocates said would allow businesses to discriminate against members of the LGBT community. The bill caused national outrage and IN lawmakers were eventually pressured into including some anti-discrimination protections amid threats of companies boycotting the state.

In October, Trump joked that Pence "wants to hang" all gay people, according to a New Yorker report.
