S-400 deal with Russian Federation done: Turkish defense minister

Turkey Reportedly Signs $2.5 Billion Deal To Buy Russian S-400 Missile Systems

Russia will sell Turkey four batteries of S-400 surface-to-air missiles for $2.5 billion under a deal that is nearly complete, Sergei Chemezov, head of Russian state conglomerate Rostec, told the Kommersant daily on Wednesday.

Several allies are also concerned as the system can not be integrated into NATO's existing military architecture.

Canikli, during a joint news conference held in Tunisia by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi, was asked about Sergey Chemezov's remarks in an interview with a Russian newspaper that the deal between the two countries, standing at $2.5 billion, was now concluded.

S-400 Triumf is a long-range anti-aircraft missile system, adopted in service in 2007. The Turkish-Russian agreement on supplies of Russia-made S-400 air defense missile systems also provides for technological cooperation between the two countries, Haberturk TV said on Friday, citing Turkey's defense industry executive committee. According to the Hurriyet daily, Ankara will pay part of the sum from its own funds and will contract a Russian loan for the rest.

Earlier this week, Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli said the two countries sorted out the remaining details behind the deal, agreeing that Ankara is to receive two systems and four batteries from Russian Federation. The S-400 can engage targets at a distance of 400 kilometers and at an altitude of up to 30 kilometers. The delivery of the first battery was scheduled for the first quarter of 2020, the statement said.
