FS1's Cris Carter: 'Tiger Woods Is Back'
Woods, making his first start since withdrawing from the Dubai Desert Classic in February, went out in 35 shots with two birdies and a bogey, before returning in 34 shots with three birdies and a bogey.
It took one round of three-under par for Vegas to start drinking the Tiger Woods Kool-Aid.
Making his first start in 10 months and just his fourth in two years, Tiger roared in the second round of the Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Course.
The 14-time major champion, who has had four back operations in the past three years, finished tied for eighth in the 18-strong field with Englishman Tommy Fleetwood in the lead on 66.
Even for Woods - the redshirted one who, with is unprecedented showreel, taught golf to ignore every barrier that had ever been there before - this seemed surreal.
"I think everyone was hoping for the best, but this is definitely better than we thought", said his caddie, Joe LaCava.
Putting was a problem for Woods as he was surprised by the quickness of the surface. "They were dry, they were rolling out and I air-mailed a few of them well past the hole but I really did struggle with my speed".
"I had a hard time all day with the speed on the greens".
"(But) I proved that the surgery was successful, the rehab has been fantastic and now I've got a chance to go out there and play competitive golf again". I really did struggle getting the speed and I blew majority well past the hole and made a few coming back. The first five holes I hit a lot of good shots and felt like I had a good rhythm and a couple birdies early on. "A lot more practice, a lot more training and more tournaments". He stayed there after a birdie on the 11th but a 3-putt bogey on the 12th knocked him off that perch. "I just played solid".
