UFC President Dana White: Conor McGregor 'might never fight again'

Conor McGregor

The reason for the interim bout was due to McGregor being unable to fight in the Octagon as he spent this year celebrating the birth of his child and pursuing a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather.

In the build-up to the Mayweather showdown, McGregor insisted he would return to the octagon and the UFC were hopeful he would headline their fight night on December 30. Try to get up and get punched in the face every day when you have $100 million in the bank.

But the Irishman, who captured the UFC lightweight championship in that November 2016 win over Alvarez, has yet to defend his world title, and White says it's unclear if the desire is there to return after his monumental payday against Mayweather.

Conor McGregor has again found himself at the center of a wild plot involving some extremely heavy hitters.

Association of Boxing Commissions reacted to the incident by blocking plans for McGregor to fight at UFC 219 in Las Vegas next month.

White admitted on Tuesday McGregor has done so well and has made so much money there might not be any motivation left. "He made $100million. I've got guys who made less than that who are lawyers and went to school their whole lives and quit working". If this were true, I just have to believe it would be off-the-charts insane.

Who will Conor McGregor fight next? White did not say when UFC would consider stripping him of the title, but said they're prepared to move on with or without McGregor.

White and the UFC are understandably keen to get McGregor's signature on a new fighting contract soon.

"He was being dealt with by the head of the ABC", White said.

White added: "He's a young, rich kid who is a god in Ireland", White said. "When you make that kind of money and you're that famous, you're going to have an overload of cling-ons". "He can do this but why I not?' This is why sometimes you have to follow rules when you're a big name, because a lot of people are watching you". "Right now, with him it's not about defend or vacate". If it's true, I'm sure we'll find out. White responded to Ferguson specifically, saying he "has no business to talk about anything" and "we ain't taking direction from Tony Ferguson", according to the Review Journal's Adam Hill.

"There is no report on this matter and no complaint from any injured parties, patrons of the pub or the pub itself and no statements were taken", an Irish police spokesman told The Irish Independent.
