Vivo smartphone beats Apple and Samsung to the punch with new tech

Fingerprint Scanner

Vivo aims to beat both companies to the punch with its new "Clear ID" fingerprint scanner.

Of the technology, Patric Moorhead, in his post says, "This sensor is actually a CMOS image sensor, less than 0.7 mm thick, similar to what a camera uses".

Just days after Synaptics announced the mass production of its in-display fingerprint sensor with one of the "top-five" smartphone vendors, it has now been revealed that Vivo is working with the company to build the advanced experience on a mass level. The top five OEMs are Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo, according to IDC.

And all it will take to unlock a device is one quick touch of the sensor, from nearly any angle.

Senate Dems' campaign arm: Trends seen in Alabama emerging across US
Moore said his campaign is collecting "numerous reported cases of voter fraud" to send to the secretary of state's office. The election must undergo a certification process that will make sure votes are valid.

Moorehead saw a pre-production phone with the tech and said the sensor was "fast and simple". The technology, "excels with wet, dry and cold fingers, and since it's protected by glass, is durable, scratchproof and waterproof".

In-display fingerprint scanning represents "a major innovation shift and opportunity for the smartphone market", said Kevin Barber, senior vice president and general manager of Synaptics' mobile division, in the statement.

When smartphone manufacturers moved to infinity-style displays in 2017, virtually removing all bezels around the screen, many expected some to adopt in-display fingerprint scanners. Apple, in particular, was highly rumoured to implement the technology for its anniversary special iPhone X but the company went ahead with FaceID, which uses 3D facial mapping for biometric authentication. "It is big for Synaptics, but even bigger for the smartphone industry and consumers".

We have been hearing that Vivo is likely to launch a smartphone with fingerprint sensor integrated into the display. Patric further speculates that Clear ID is considerably less expensive when compared to Face ID, and that puts Synaptics at a definite advantage when compared with alternatives. Synaptics said it plans to give a live demonstration of the technology in a full-production device during CES, which takes place in Las Vegas next month.
