Locals informed police that the car was being driven at a very high speed and the driver lost control when he was overtaking another vehicle
Yadav, along with five other powerlifters, were travelling from Panipat towards Delhi in their Swift Dzire vehicle, when the auto hit a road divider.
Rajneesh Gupta said the deceased have been identified as Tikamchand alias Tinka (27), Saurabh (18), Yogesh (24), Harish Roy (20).
All the four players died on the spot, the reports said.
The Alipur police are investigating the accident. A sixth weightlifter (19) was battling for life. Two other athletes were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at the City's Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh. Yadav with severe head injuries and internal bleeding was later shifted to the trauma centre of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where he succumbed to his injuries.
"The impact of crash was so severe that the vehicle rolled over several times with its roof getting completely blown off, before hitting a pole and killing four of them on the spot". Due to the impact of the crash, the car's roof was shattered. While Rohit, one of the victims who suffered grievous injuries was taken to LNJP Hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger. "So the possibility of drunken driving is there", he added. All the other athletes including Bali were residents of Timarpur in north Delhi.
Bottles of liquor were reportedly found in the vehicle.
Police said that they were driving towards Karnal in Haryana after the birthday celebrations of one of the occupants of the vehicle. The accident took place when the weightlifters were returning to Delhi.
