Other affected airports included John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Miami International Airport, according to media reports and the airports' social media posts.
The technological failure was caused by an apparent computer outage affecting passport control, with travelers reporting that kiosk machines at customs were not working.
An outage affecting the computer systems of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) left global travelers waiting in long lines at airports throughout the country.
Other airports, including Denver International Airport, also said they were affected. That power outage was caused by a fire that broke out beneath the airport, officials said.

A spokesperson tells CBS News that Customs and Border Patrol has been contacted and are investigating. It added that all airports came back online after the outage lasted from 7:30 pm to about 9:30 pm ET. All airports are now back online.
"During the technology disruption, CBP had access to national security-related databases and all travelers were screened according to security standards", CBP said in a statement. It gave no explanation for the disruption and said travelers were processed using alternative procedures.
US Customs and Border Protection said on its Twitter page that there was "no indication the disruption was malicious in nature".
Even modern systems such as the Amadeus Altea are prone to random failures, the website says.
