Chelsea are closing in on a £15million deal for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley and could confirm the move before the weekend, according to reports.

The deal could be completed in the coming days, with the BBC claiming he will have a medical at Stamford Bridge today (Friday) ahead of a £15 million transfer. Barkley cited his own injury as the reason for the change of mind back then - he hasn't played all season in fact, after undergoing surgery in July - though it seemed like that he really wanted to join Spurs instead.

Tottenham have been monitoring Barkley's situation but Sky Sports suggest the North Londoners have chose to end their interest with Mauricio Pochettino now looking at alternative targets.

That delay looks likely to cost Barkley's boyhood club £20m in transfer revenue although Everton risk losing the England global for nothing in the summer and will reluctantly accept a cut-price move.

And then there was this spectacular rushing touchdown to tie the game at 14 less than five minutes into the second quarter. Jackson, who hadn't thrown an interception since October, threw picks on back-to-back drives in the third quarter.

Tottenham were also interested in signing Barkley last summer, but Sky Sports News understands they decided against reigniting their interest in the 24-year-old with Mauricio Pochettino focusing on other targets.

New manager Sam Allardyce said previous year that if he returned to full fitness and remained committed, he could still have a future at the club.

With Gylfi Sigurdsson, Davy Klaassen and Nikola Vlasic already at the club, his departure may not leave the Everton manager scrambling to sign a replacement.

Barkley has been at Everton since he was 11-years-old, having been spotted by the club's late and prolific former scout Sid Benson, and made 150 Premier League appearances.
