Meanwhile, Uber has been using Nvidia's self-driving technology in its autonomous test cars for a while, though the companies are only just starting to talk about it this week.
Nvidia has collaborated with Uber Technologies and Volkswagen to make further gains in the autonomous vehicles segment. In total, Nvidia is now collaborating with more than 320 companies on self-driving vehicle and truck initiatives worldwide, including carmakers, auto parts suppliers and information technology firms. Xavier is a complete system-on-a-chip processor that's essentially an AI brain for self-driving cars.
The AI infusion will give the Volkswagen I.D. Buzz "Intelligent Co-Pilot" capabilities, which will include convenience and driver assistance systems based on processing sensor data from both inside and outside of the vehicle. Nvidia will provide its Drive IX platform, its Intelligent Experience platform software development kit.
