The state Congress on Sunday expelled Bengaluru city youth Congress general secretary Mohammed Haris Nalapad from the party for six years for brutally assaulting a youth.
An embarrassed Congress was forced to expel MLA NA Haris' son Mohammad Nalapad on Sunday following a News18 report on an attack by the latter and his friends on a youth in an upscale Bengaluru restaurant.
The victim was at one of the posh restaurants in UB City when Nalapad entered with his aides at around 11:30 pm, PTI reported. Nalapad and his friends got into an argument with Vidwath when they asked him to sit properly.
The victim, Vidvat, is now recovering at Mallya Hospital.
Circle Inspector of Cubbon Park, Vijay Hadagali, has been suspended for allegedly helping the MLA's son and the ACP Manjunath Talawar has been transferred to Police Commissioner's Office for dereliction of duty. According to Vidvat's friends who were with him at the café, Mohammed and his gang followed and assaulted them with bottles when they were trying to take Vidvat to Mallya Hospital after the brawl. He also alleged that BJP MP PC Mohan's son, Preetam was also seen in the CCTV footage in the cafe, but no casewase registered against him. The state government had come under enormous pressure after BJP and opposition parties strongly condemned the incident and also launched a series of protests in the city mainly at Cubbon Park police station since Sunday. "One can not cover up something wrong so I have asked my son to surrender", NA Harris told TNM.
