These Photos Were Snapped by the Farthest-Ever Cameras from Earth

New Horizons probe captures images at record distance from Earth

NASA probe “New Horizons” snaps farthest-ever photo from Earth

Now, NASA's New Horizons spacecraft has broken that record with several new photos.

False-color images of KBOs 2012 HZ84 (left) and 2012 HE85, taken by LORRI, are the farthest from Earth ever captured by a spacecraft.

According to the press release, New Horizons is now back in hibernation mode and will reawaken on June 4 to begin preparations for a January 1, 2019 rendezvous with 2014 MU69, which is almost a billion miles beyond Pluto. That spacecraft is New Horizons, a NASA starship that zipped past Pluto in 2015 and is scheduled to fly by an object in the icy Kuiper Belt at the outer reaches of the solar system in January 2019.

"And now, we've been able to make images farther from Earth than any spacecraft in history", Stern said.

NASA's New Horizons spacecraft captured these images at a distance of 3.79 billion miles from Earth - the farthest from our planet an image has ever been made. Voyager 1 shut off its camera the same year it captured the "Pale Blue Dot" image and Voyager 2 shut down its cameras after imaging Neptune in 1989. The spacecraft travels more than 700,000 miles of space every day.

New Horizons is just the fifth spacecraft that goes through the heights of our solar system and opens itself into the real enormous universe.

Major assault launched against IS in Egypt
IS started to scale up its attacks in Sinai from September 2017 onwards, as it started losing territory in Iraq and Syria. Last year, militants attacked a Sufi mosque in the region, killing 311 worshipers.

NASA says Voyager 1's cameras were turned off after that, so its photography record has been unchallenged for more than 27 years.

"Those are the farthest out images ever taken", says Dr. Andy Cheng, with the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel.

The New Horizons broke a 28-year-old record held by the Voyager 1.

"Mission scientists study the images to determine the objects' shapes and surface properties, and to check for moons and rings".

New Horizons continues to exceed expectations in its space wanderings. "The spacecraft also is making almost continuous measurements of the plasma, dust and neutral-gas environment along its path", it added. The craft is now on its way to Kuiper Belt to take pictures of the Kuiper Belt object (KBO) which was named 2014 MU69 on January 1st, 2019. It will be the farthest planetary encounter in history. New Horizons is exploring this region and the Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs) found there in an effort to better understand these far-away worlds and the journeys they're making through the cosmos.

In the course of its extended mission in the Kuiper Belt, the New Horizons team seeks to observe at least two-dozen other KBOs, dwarf planets and "Centaurs" - i.e. former KBOs that have unstable orbits that cause them to cross the orbit of the gas giants.
