Jamie Carragher has been suspended by Sky Sports after spitting at a Manchester United fan and his 14-year-old daughter, with the broadcaster removing him from tonight's live coverage of the Premier League game between Stoke City and Manchester City.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher shamelessly spit at a young Manchester United fan and is now paying the price for his disgusting act.

The former player is heard to say "All right", before appearing to spit at the auto.

After Sky announced his suspension, Carragher described it as "a moment of madness and not representative of the real me", according to Sky Sports News. Watching those clips back is like an out of body experience.

"It was nearly an out of body thing but you can't ever behave like that, it's unacceptable", he said.

Jamie Carragher should remain in his role with Sky Sports despite being suspended for spitting in the direction of a 14-year-old girl, colleague Gary Neville has said.

Pushed on whether it mattered how old or what gender any victim of being spat on was, Carragher clarified: "No of course, I'm not saying that, I mean that it is a young girl who feels slightly worse".

"Obviously I've had Sky Sports, family, and the people most affected are the family involved".

"That's the only time I've reacted like that, it'll be the only time I ever react like that". It won't happen again.

"It is hard for me to explain. I will apologise to the daughter".

Yesterday ex-pro Vinnie Jones joined calls for Sky to rip up Carragher's lucrative contract, said to be worth £1million a year. "He seems contrite. Everyone makes mistakes, we are all human".

He's massively passionate about football and he's overstepped the mark and shouldn't have reacted.

GNev took to Twitter, stating that in his opinion "this isolated incident shouldn't stop us working together".

"It was a moment of madness that is hard for me to explain".

Carragher said that while his future at the broadcaster "remains to be seen", he had not offered his resignation. "That is Sky's decision, not my decision", he said. I have brought shame on the name of Sky. I apologise for it and (I'm) getting vilified, and rightly so. They've made it be known there that they're very disappointed and understandably so.

He had earlier added a second message about Carragher, writing: 'On a serious note, we all make mistakes, @Carra23 made a big one.

"[It was] a moment of madness that really is hard for me to explain".
