Bruce McArthur, Alleged Toronto Serial Killer, Linked To 7th Set Of Remains: Police Source

"I do not want to release this picture", Toronto Detective Sergeant Hank Idsinga said Monday, according to the Toronto Star.

"I've never done this and I do it with great hesitation", Idsinga said.

The police are returning to older, unsolved cases to see if they are linked to the killer.

McArthur, a 66-year-old landscaper, has been charged with six counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Skandaraj "Skanda" Navaratnam, Andrew Kinsman, Selim Esen, Majeed Kayhan, Soroush Mahmudi, and Dean Lisowick.

Did Toronto serial killer seal his own fate when he picked Andrew Kinsman as his victim?

Idsinga would not comment on how police obtained the photo or where it was taken. He said that it had been altered slightly to make the photograph sharper and to remove "artifacts" from the background.

Fingerprint and dental analysis has not been successful, police say.

The force used the eraser tool 56 times to clean up the image before releasing it to the public.

"I would also ask the media to be mindful that by broadcasting this picture a family member or friend not realizing that their loved one is deceased may come to that realization the moment they view that picture ... we need to put a name to his face and bring closure to this man's loved ones".

Idsinga announced police have also found the dismembered remains of a seventh victim buried in planters at an East Toronto home where McArthur, 66, worked as a landscaper.

Upon investigation, officers concluded the device " had the potential to cause significant injury or death " if it had detonated. Brandt-Campagna advised the school community that students should secure their personal information to prevent identity theft.

The remains of Navaratnam, Kinsman and Mahmudi have been identified. "It's a bit of a misconception", he said.

On Monday, Idsinga confirmed that another set of unidentified remains have also been found in a planter on the Leaside property.

Nearly all of the charges against McArthur were laid before police identified the remains of the victims. The process is laborious and may take weeks or even months, according to Idsinga.

The detective was joined at the news conference by Dr. Michael Pollanen, the chief forensic pathologist for the province, to explain the scope of the investigation.

Police have yet to release a cause of death on the victims, although the sexual M.O. of McArthur - formerly a married father of two - was choking.

Decomposition and incomplete human remains are two factors that investigators say make it hard to determine the cause of death.

Idsinga said the evidence collected points to a cause of death for some of the men, but wouldn't specify what it was.

Officials have only been able to identify three of McArthur's alleged victims.

Navaratnam and Kayhan were part of the focus of Project Houston, a task force assembled to search for three missing men in Toronto's Gay Village.

McArthur had been storing his landscaping equipment at the home in exchange for mowing the lawn and taking care of the yard of the home owners.
