Listeriosis: Here's how to make your kitchen a disease-free zone

Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi has announced that government has narrowed down the sources of the deadly listeriosis outbreak in South Africa.

"The food served to over nine million learners daily as part of the NSNP is safe and excludes these types of meat products", the statement said. The outbreak was finally traced after infecting people for more than a year.

The public have been advised to remove any Enterprise ready-to-eat products from their fridges and place them in a plastic bag away from other products. "While we know that polony is definitely implicated, there is a risk of cross-contamination of other ready-to-eat processed meat products, either at production, distribution or retail".

"We are removing products from our stores that may be linked to the Listeriosis outbreak", Pick n Pay, one of the largest chain stores in the country, said in a statement.

Both companies say they have not yet quantified the cost of the national recall of their products.
