Joseph James DeAngelo 72 the alleged Golden State Killer was arrested Wednesday

Joseph James DeAngelo 72 the alleged Golden State Killer was arrested Wednesday

CoCo County Investigator Paul Holes is "100 percent sure" they have "Golden State Killer " He wanted to solve the case before he retired - and the stunning conclusion to a decades-long hunt for the "Golden State Killer" is something you'll want to hear straight from him. Sacramento's Chief Deputy Steve Grippi confirmed the use of a genealogy website to USA TODAY but declined to elaborate further on what website was used. In all that time Inouye says, "We didn't ever really talk about it".

Ancestry.com has said it hasn't received any such requests for genetic information in the last three years.

He is the alleged serial killer who spent almost four decades on the run, but now that 72-year-old Joseph James Deangelo is in custody, questions from investigators about his role as the Visalia Ransacker and Golden State Killer pour in. A spokesperson for 23andMe, a well-known genealogical website, said it was not involved in the investigation. The process produced a lead a week ago, pointing to DeAngelo based on his age and whereabouts at the time of the attacks, Grippi said. "It was 15 years until we heard that there was a DNA sample taken from our scene", Harrington said. Officers surveilled DeAngelo for several days prior to his arrest.

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones said Wednesday that detectives were ultimately able to match the DNA with a sample he "discarded", but Jones would not go into detail about what that sample was. "It happened nearly instantaneously". Investigators are still working to link him to the other crimes, including 12 murders, 45 rapes and the ransacking of more than 100 homes.

Stun gun used on passenger on flight to Chicago
According to the arrest report, Garcia continued to resist efforts to move him from the aircraft to a police vehicle. We thank our crews and airport customer service team for their excellent work in this situation'.

Ancestry.com and 23andMe, two of the largest companies that produce genetic profiles for customers who provide DNA samples, say they don't cooperate with law enforcement unless they receive a court order.

"He would be outside in his driveway working on his vehicle or something, and he would go into these really loud tirades, Sanchietti said, adding that he nevertheless was unaware of DeAngelo ever running afoul of law enforcement".

But it appears as though law enforcement used the software like any member would have and simply shared DeAngelo's DNA to the website.

DeAngelo - the man accused of being the Golden State Killer - is a former police officer, a Vietnam veteran and a mechanic. It isn't clear why.
