BREAKING: Alfie Evans removed from ventilation

Protesters storm hospital of terminally-ill Alfie Evans as parents fight to keep his life support on

Following a series of emergency hearings with Paul Diamond, standing counsel to the Christian Legal Centre, regarding the Italian intervention, Mr Justice Hayden refused to discharge his previous order, saying that Alfie was a United Kingdom citizen "habitually resident" in the UK.

But the judge has refused their application and given doctors the go-ahead to stop treatment and bring Alfie's life to an end.

Protesters have clashed with police outside the Alder Hey hospital where terminally-ill baby Alfie Evans is now being treated. "Moved by the prayers and huge solidarity shown little Alfie Evans, I renew my appeal that the suffering of his parents may be heard and that their desire to seek new forms of treatment may be granted", the message read.

The High Court will hold an emergency hearing in Manchester at 3.30pm today.

His parents want to take him to the Bambino Gesu (Baby Jesus) paediatric hospital in Rome which is administered by the Vatican. In an interview with Italian Radio 24, Mariella Enoc, who travelled to Liverpool to personally try to intervene on behalf of the parents, said she spoke to the Italian ambassador in London who said the plane could leave with him in a matter of minutes.

Alfie has survived much longer than the doctors predicted, lending support to the request from Alfie's parents for Alfie to be seen by medical experts in Italy.

"Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano and Interior Minister Marco Minniti have granted citizenship to little Alfie".

Mr Diamond said there was now an "international relations element" to the case.

In 2013, Mack also tried to contact hit-maker Clarkson, saying "I heard through the grapevine that you're a fan of Smallville ". If convicted of the charges, Mack and Raniere each face a minimum of 15 years and up to life in prison.

On Friday Supreme Court justices said there should be no further delay in treatment being stopped.

A United Kingdom hospital is holding an Italian citizen hostage and intends to deprive him of life-giving treatment against the wishes of his parents.

Alfie has been at Alder Hey since December 2016, with doctors concluding that his condition is "futile" as he is suffering from an undiagnosed degenerative brain disease, which has also led to seizures and infection.

Police remained outside the entrances to the children's hospital throughout the day.

Speaking outside Alder Hey an hour earlier, Tom said doctors have been left "gobsmacked" by Alfie's progress after his life support was withdrawn. Last week the parents also lost an attempt to persuade the Supreme Court to let them appeal an order that the boy's life support be turned off. This was not what doctors had expected, he said outside a Liverpool hospital.

During a conference call earlier this evening a United Kingdom judge would not change a previous court decision that the hospital could remove the baby's life support under the pretext that it was in Alfie's "best interest".

Appeal judges upheld Mr Justice Hayden's decision.

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: "Alfie Evan's family are going through an exceptionally hard time and our thoughts are with them".

They have now asked judges at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg, France, to intervene.
