Apple Reportedly Working on AR/ VR Wireless Headset With Dual 8K Displays

Report: Apple working on wireless AR/VR headset…
As it turns out, the company might not be restricting its vision to just augmented reality, but looking beyond to virtual reality as well. According to a person familiar with Apple's plans, the project, codenamed T288, is still in its early stages, but assuming it remains on track is slated for a 2020 release.
Apple is reportedly working on a new headset that will utilize both VR and AR technologies.
The report further claims that the VR headset will connect wirelessly to a dedicated "box" using a high-speed short-range wireless technology called 60GHz WiGig. the source said that the box will be powered by a 5-nanometer proprietary Apple processor that will be "more powerful than anything now available" in the market. Of course, plans change and it could get cancelled altogether if Apple executives decide the finished device doesn't meet expectations.
Today, a report from CNET writer Shara Tibken, citing an unnamed source, suggests Apple is targeting a 2020 release for what sounds like a combination AR/VR headset "that would be untethered from a computer or smartphone". Moreover, the future VR/AR gadget will render in 8K resolution per each eye, summing a 16K resolution in total.
Apple, in the person of its CEO, Tim Cook, has never made a mystery of being very interested in these two technologies and, in fact, we have seen some evidence of this effort, especially on the latest iPhone X. If only Apple comes out with one in the days to come, that is. The small box would be short-range and high-speed. The headset which will not require any external sensor will also feature built-in location tracking sensors. This box, which looks like a PC tower, would be powered by a custom Apple processor. The giant is working with HTC to bring their new VR Headset.
Virtual reality isn't a natural fit for mobile the way that augmented reality is.
