Apple Said to Be Working on a Curved iPhone With Touchless Controls

Apple Testing 'Touchless' Gestures for the iPhone

Apple reportedly plans iPhones with curved screens and non-touch gesture controls

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is experimenting with two new features that could make it into future iPhone models: touchless gesture controls and curved screens.

As explained in the report, the touchless control seems to be similar to 3D gestures that you can perform by hovering your fingers slightly above the screen. Flagship Samsung Galaxy S phones have had curved screen sides for years now, though the Bloomberg report indicates Apple's curved iPhone display would "curve inward gradually from top to bottom".

Samsung now uses smartphone screens that curve, but its curved screens slope down at the edges, rather than from top to bottom.

Spotify's Very Weird, Suspenseful IPO Launches Today
Losses for last year were 1.2 billion Euros ($1.47 billion), which compares to 539 million Euros ($661 million) the year before. Almost 91 percent of Spotify's 178 million shares were tradable, a much higher percentage than typical in a traditional IPO.

"I will be flying straight to Amritsar followed by Patna and Kolkata", he said. The remaining 39 were taken to Badoosh and killed.

The innovative tech is thought to be advanced enough to sense your finger's proximity to the iPhone screen. You'll need to get pretty close to the screen, though, because the gestures rely on technology built into the display itself. From a tutorial on the new features in Notes to showing users how to manage multiple emails, Apple is working hard to show off all the available features to existing and potential future customers. But unlike the Samsung, Apple's implementation of the curved screen will be different. After all, Apple's said to be sourcing most of its OLED technology from the South Korean giant anyway.

The new iPhone is expected to be unveiled in September. Changing the way that users interact with screens could offer something new on the market depending on how it's implemented. Both these features are said to be in early test and development stages and it may as well be the case that Apple may decide to put this on a halt. In February, Sony demonstrated a 120-inch display at Integrated Systems Europe 2018 that uses microLED and Crystal LED technologies.

These two features will not arrive in this year's iPhones. Samsung has successfully been producing phones with curved edge-to-edge displays since the Galaxy S6 Edge made its debut in 2015. It's also the first iPhone to feature an OLED display.
